Strike a chord

While browsing through my files this morning, I stumbled upon this old text file named Orig Compo Lyrics. I opened it curiously. The title reads ‘Sa Silangan’, a song I wrote way back in college, over 10 years ago.

My old band (named Overdrive, yes very creative) used it to audition for a slot as the front act for Silent Sanctuary when they played at our university. To our surprise, we made the cut. We were one of the bands chosen to play. I remember the rush of adrenaline, crowd’s energy and sense of accomplishment after playing our set. Good times. We performed three songs, ‘Sa Silangan’, ‘Para Sa’yo’ and ‘Sige’.

I suddenly missed playing in a band.

Feeling nostalgic, I opened my Messenger app and searched for our drummer’s name. I typed out a message and hit send, wondering whether he would respond. As I waited for a reply, I scrolled through our previous conversations, chuckling at the thought that our last exchange was a decade old.

He replied after a few hours. I asked him if he still plays, and he does. I was also surprised to learn that he lives nearby. After some how are yous, I invited him to jam sometimes. And he said game.

So that’s one activity I’d definitely enjoy going back to, jamming with a band. Also, I’ve been toying with the idea of recording some of my songs in a proper studio. Maybe this time, there’ll be a chance.

As I write this now, I can’t help but get excited at the thought of picking up my guitar again, of creating music, of finding new rhythms in familiar melodies and striking a chord once more.
