In a recent chat, a friend was surprised to learn that I’m not active on social media.

While I do have the usual suspects—

all are inactive.

I log in every once in a while. Here’s my occasional log-in ceremony: download the apps, log in, check notifications, then close and uninstall. On lazier days, I just tab-hop in the browser.

Few years ago, I was semi-active on my two anonymous IG accounts. One was a portfolio of logos, illustrations and graphic design stuff, hoping to land some clients. The other one was my digital ledger, documenting my net worth journey for the personal finance community. These days, however, I rarely visit my accounts, my personal one included.

Social media, it seems, is one addiction that failed to hook me.

Perhaps it’s an age thing or maybe it’s the way social media sometimes feels like a never-ending reunion. Either way, my detachment grows. I’m not immune to the allure of a well-curated feed or a viral meme, but I guess I find more satisfaction in real-world conversations.

The kind where you can listen to unfiltered secrets and share your own,
where you can be amazed by someone’s stories and inspire yourself,
where you can think out loud,
where you can hear laughter, not just see ‘LOL’,
where you can allow yourself to just be you, and not showcase another version of you.

So while the world posts, tweets and snaps away, I’ll be over here, a coffee in one hand and a notebook in another, updating my status -

OFFLINE.
