Beginner’s high

I’m in my early 30s, and I feel like there are still many things that I haven’t tried and places that I haven’t been.

Recently, I tried hiking for the first time. I couldn’t stop talking about it afterward. I truly enjoyed the challenge, scenery and company. The warmth of the community also surprised me. The camaraderie among hikers was palpable, something I had not expected. It was such a great experience that I wanted to go on another hike a week after. Of course, I didn’t. I think the adrenaline and excitement from the hike lingered for a while, a high that left me craving more.

I’m just glad that I got the chance and courage to try it. I’ve been hesistant to try out new things. Because let’s face it, it’s scary to be a beginner. Admitting you are one is a bit embarrassing.

When I first started running and cycling, I was shy. Going out for a run or a bike ride was unnatural for me. Being an introvert did not make things easier.

But I just reminded myself - nobody was born an expert. Now I almost always run or ride solo. I learned not to overthink and just enjoy my day outside, running or on my bike cycling.

At this point in my life, I guess I have enough confidence to pursue things that I’ve been wanting to do. It’s fun to have friends by your side but exploring on your own is refreshing and freeing. The world is full of friendly and good people.

Today, I challenge myself, and you, to do something new. Be proud of being a beginner. It shows courage. Flaunt your enthusiasm. The journey is as important as the destination.
